Dance

The diversified JCC dance program offers everyone – from age 4 to adults, beginners through professional – the opportunity to enjoy dance. Our dance curriculum constantly evolves to meet the needs of our students and interests of our community.  Through our classes and performances, we hope to enrich students’ lives by instilling a lifelong interest in dance.
  • Our youngest students can enjoy age-appropriate dance classes such as the creative combo class, which combines tap and creative movement for a terrific introduction to the world of dance.
  • Youth and Tween & Teen classes are offered in yoga, ballet, tap, modern dance, jazz, and hip hop.
  • Performances are an integral part of the dance department. Dance students perform in the JCC’s Kreeger Theatre, and often perform at JCC events, such as our Annual Meeting and holiday celebrations.
  • The JCC Maccabi Dance Team is always an outstanding representative of our area at the national JCC Maccabi Games. Participation in the Games enriches the teens’ Jewish identity and encourages identification with the State of Israel.
  • For adults, we offer dance and body wellness classes, such as a “Stress Transformation/Flexibility” class that incorporates Swedish and deep tissue self-massage techniques, Chakra Energy Healing, Yoga, and Guided Imagery.
  • The JCC Guest Artist Modern Dance Workshop received the prestigious 2007 Metro Dance Award for Teaching Excellence. Alvin Mayes continues to bring together the JCC with the University of Maryland and the active dance community.
  • Kinor is the JCC’s contemporary Israeli folk dance company. They perform at folk festivals and senior living facilities, delighting audiences throughout the community.
